Neck Pain
Neck pain is experienced by around 70% of people at some stage in their life and one of the most common reasons for a visit to the physiotherapist. Pain can occur due a wide variety of reasons such as sedentary behaviour, or even sleeping in an awkward position physiotherapy does help. This issue is common among adults, but it can occur at any age. In the course of 3 months, about 15% of adults have pain that lasts at least one full day. Pain in the neck area can develop suddenly, such as from an injury, or it may develop slowly over time.
Many people develop a stiff and painful neck for no obvious reason. It may happen after sitting in a draught or after a minor twisting injury, for example while gardening. We call this ‘non-specific neck pain’. This is the most common type of pain and usually disappears after a few days, providing you keep gently moving your neck and rest when you need to. With such a high frequency of patient visits for everything from a simple stiff neck through to the more complex combined neck and shoulder pain with pins and needles we are well versed in the various types of neck pain that can occur and are highly skilled at supporting people with neck pain.
