Pelvic Health Physio

Pelvic Health

The pelvic floor muscles support the pelvic organs including the bladder, bowel, and the uterus.  These muscles work with other key muscle groups in your core to allow you carry out dynamic actions such as, coughing, sneezing, lifting etc. in a way that protects your spine and organs whilst also enabling you to control your bladder and bowel (continence).

The pelvic floor can be weakened through pregnancy, childbirth, obesity, straining of chronic constipation, cancer, and surgery.

How Does Physiotherapy Help?

We treat women of all ages!  Many people are not aware that physiotherapy can help with their pelvic floor dysfunction.  We treat a range of conditions including urinary incontinence, bladder urgency, pelvic organ prolapses. diastasis recti, bowel incontinence and constipation, painful sex, pelvic pain, scar tissue restrictions etc.

Assessments are carried out by a Women’s Health Physiotherapist and are led by you.  An internal examination may be indicated from the assessment; however, we only perform this examination with your consent.  You also have the option to bring a chaperone with you to your appointment. If you do not want an internal assessment, please do not worry as it is only a part of the examination in many cases.

Results will be discussed with you following the assessment and a bespoke rehab programme will be provided.
