Stroke

Stroke

Stroke is the most prominent cause of physical disability in Ireland. Stroke is caused by either a clot blocking the main blood vessels in the brain or a bleed on the brain causing the effected areas of the brain to stop working normally. Due to this a stroke can lead to many different symptoms which can affect muscular strength, sensation, coordination, proprioception, vision, decreased speech and understanding of speech, decreased memory function, personality changes amongst others.

The physiotherapists at Kilkeel Physio Clinic have many years of experience of treating acute, sub-acute and chronic stroke patients through their experience of working with this patient population as senior physiotherapists within the NHS in England.

How Can Neurophysiotherapy Help?

The physiotherapists at the Kilkeel Physio Clinic aims to help stroke patients regain physical function through neural plasticity and motor re-learning. This allows the brain to recover movement patterns that lead to functional gains for the patient. This is achieved through the implementation of a thorough assessment and rehabilitation programme which is personalised to meet the needs and goals of our patients.

The rehabilitation programme will consist of both manual hands on treatment coupled with a tailored home exercise programme. It will take a patient centred approach and will implement an up to date evidence based programme which will optimise the rehab potential for our patients and
enhance goal achievement.
